You all know the deal with these posts: Work in Progress, or WIP, posts are excerpts from open writing projects. All writing is my own and in the rough draft phase. Take it (but don’t actually take it, copyright me and all that) for what it is!
Previous excerpts from this story can be found here and here.
Tom found himself looking at other women. He was looking in a way he hadn’t considered other women in years, perhaps since before Sarah came into his life. It alarmed him.
He decided to plan a romantic dinner following a show. “The Sound of Music” was in town and was one of Sarah’s favorites. He would surprise her with it for the weekend.
As he handed her the tickets and told her of the dinner reservation, they stood in the kitchen and he gathered her nearer to him. Looking into her eyes, he tucked her hair behind her ear. “We need to get back to being us.”
Sarah snuggled into her husband’s embrace. “I miss you,” she said as a tear slid down her cheek.
They lingered in this moment a bit longer before Tom pulled Sarah away to arm’s length and looked into those beautiful blue eyes he knew so well.
“We’re going to have a date night, wife.” He followed it up with the wink he knew she liked and was rewarded with a full-mouth smile from his bride.

Two days later, as Tom laced up a pair of his leather shoes, he looked up to find his breath taken away by his stunning wife, in a gorgeous red dress, her blonde hair draped over her left shoulder.
Sarah stopped as she entered and watched her husband take her in from head to toe and the resulting slack-jawed expression, which left a mischievous half-grin on her own face. Being appreciated in this way boosted her confidence. She walked up to her husband, taking his face in her hands and kissed him with a passion that neither Sarah nor Tom had any recent memory of.
“Would you mind showing a girl a night on the town, sailor,” Sarah said, breaking off the kiss as they sat forehead to forehead.
“It would be my pleasure ma’am,” Tom responded, a boyhood twinkle in his eye.
