I’m rethinking my stance on reading as solely an isolated activity

Recently, I was scrolling through Instagram and interacting with bookish hashtags and I came across a photo that showed a mom and her son reading together. The story I told myself about this photo is that they were in their living room, enjoying a cozy afternoon together, when this woman’s son, seeing his mom reading, decided that this is a good activity, made himself cozy and pulled up his own book. I commented on the photo #momgoals, because dear lord yes!

Nonfiction audiobooks make my walks more interesting (and productive)!

Audiobooks have found a resurgence in my pandemic days. I find time to listen to them while I’m on my almost daily walks and, surprisingly, as I’m drifting off to sleep. Did you know that your smart speaker can read to you? It’s been the best discovery ever! I hook my iPhone up to my Echo 2, and then play from my chosen audiobook through Libby, which I use to borrow audiobooks from the library. Libby has a sleep timer, which I’ll utilize, as does Alexa, simply ask her to set a sleep timer for however long you choose. It’s such a throwback move, and also a very calming way to go to sleep!

So, prime day happened…

Prime Day happened and I got a new Kindle!

Let me just start out this post by saying, I needed to replace my Kindle. Here’s why: I have a Kindle Fire from 2013. It has been through a lot with me, many books, many vacations, many movies and almost daily use. Its functionality is now less than I would like, specifically, some applications cannot or will not be updated on my hardware and the battery is less than. Now, I know I have what one might classify as marathon reading sessions where I’ll lose myself in a book for hours. In a recent such session, I outlasted my Kindle. What I mean by that is that the battery died before I wanted to stop reading. That, unfortunately was the last straw. I would need a new Kindle. Enter, Prime Day and some awesome advice crowdsourced from friends.
